Two day break… Again~!
Two weeks since my last post! ;o Two weeks of living on instant noodles and bread. xD So it’s the weekend again! And I’m lazing around watching Futurama…. Again. xD
At some point during the week before last (I forget what day) me and JC went in search of a fast internet connection. We visited one internet café which looked incredible! A room full of HUGE screens that looked fairly high spec. They had a load of games on them from what I could see. (The only one I recognised was World of Warcraft.) Anyway, we turned that one down because we wouldn’t be allowed to use our own machines. So we chose the next obvious option: Starbucks. We went in and told them that we’d order something if their internet was a decent speed – It wasn’t. SO, on the way out, we ordered something anyway because the smell of western coffee is too good to resist. Even though I could have fed myself for a week for the same price. xD
So after trying one or two other places that didn’t have internet access, we decided to go back to the big internet café with the fancy machines. Despite my furvent insisting that we’d need photo-ID. So, after we’d been ID’d (Neither of us were carrying any) and I’d done my victory dance, we went to find another place. We ended up in a rather fancy resteraunt/café thing and got come pancakes and played around on the internet. (Which wasn’t particularly fast anyway. But it was nice to sit and have a nice western-feeling chill out.
Last week nothing of note really happened. I had classes, they were all ace. Really enjoying teaching. Couple of classes are a bit “D:”. But other than that; ^_^
This week was a big week!! Bought a number of things from JC when he moved away. So I can finally stop living on instant noodles and Tuc-biscuit-sandwitches. Haha. I got a hob, a rice cooker, a load of cutlery, cooking ingredients etc. and…. Dum, du-duuuum!! A scooter. Which I unfortuantely haven’t gotten round to taking a picture of. xD But stay tuned~!!
After a visit to the supermarket and got a load of random stuff for cooking etc. I got some milk (Which I’ve not had since comming here and was ace) and some weird deep-fried things, I have no idea what they were but they were tasty and made a good sandwitch!
Since I’ve STILL not been provided with the internet at my accommodation. (Extreme levels of anoyance) they’ve been trying rediculously stupid ways of getting it. First: Guy came and (There are a lot of ethernet cables laying around at my accommodation) basically tried plugging a router into each and every one of them, which I went along with out of good humor. Second: They did the same thing except actually provided me with the Wi-Fi code for the router instead of having my laptop connected via an ethernet cable. (Which is the EXACT same end result as a physical connection. Uhg.) THEN I was told that a resteraunt “Across the street” had free Wi-Fi and that I could go in, get some food and the Wi-Fi code and use it where I live. Since I’m on the 5th floor, I was already skeptical about the range of the network when I thought the source was directly across the street. I was then assigned someone to help me to the resteraunt and get something to eat + the Wi-Fi code. I was then walked for a good TWO MINUTES (Which isn’t much but it’s not the walk I’m complaining about) I knew fine well there was no way this network was going to reach my accommodation. I tried to explain this to both the guy I was with and then the boss over the phone, all to no avail. SOOOO I went along with it, again out of good humour. Had a nice western-ish meal. (It was at a steak house resteraunt) got the code and connected using my iPhone. Then we left and sure enough, not 30 seconds later, we’d exceeded the network coverage, which left me wishing I’d used the time I was on the internet to look up how to say “I told you so” in Chinese but instead I contented myself with simply gesturing to my phone and saying “Don’t have” and flashing a smug look (I just had to buy a stupidly expensive meal with money I can’t really afford to spend on the false assumption that I’d have the internet from it and was not in a good mood.) So as things stand just now, there’s a public Wi-Fi network that I can connect to that allows me to access Google, so I can use email and stuff. But that’s it. Once I have a phone number I’ll be able to register with it – Though I’d not sure how that works. The only bad thing about this network (Or I should say, what’s bad about microsoft but somehow directly affects the network) is that I cannot connect to it from Windows. So I have to boot into Linux in order to check my email. >.>
Aaaanyways, after a bit of exploring around the school, I found a nice place by the canal where I go to sit when it’s warm. Don’t really have any really good pictures cause I was just idly snapping while I was lazing about.
